Professionals invited to "Pathway to Progress: Enhancing Community Response to Family Needs" workshop

Judges, attorneys, physicians, social workers and military personnel are invited to a multidisciplinary workshop Jan. 21-22, 2009, in Elizabethtown, Ky. This workshop will focus on sensitive issues facing families and the community and is sponsored by the Court Improvement Program of the Administrative Office of the Courts. Kentucky Court of Appeals to hear oral arguments in two cases Jan. 14 in Stanton

The Kentucky Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in a civil case and a worker’s compensation case Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Stanton. A three-judge panel consisting of Court of Appeals Judges Denise G. Clayton, Joy A. Moore and Janet L. Stumbo will hear oral arguments starting at 10 a.m. in the Circuit Courtroom of the Powell County Courthouse at 525 Washington St. Proceedings are open to the public.

Bilingual court interpreters nationwide invited to forensic science workshop

Bilingual (Spanish-English) interpreters for courts of justice nationwide will have the opportunity to learn forensic investigation vocabulary and techniques to apply in their work by attending a three-day workshop Jan. 30-Feb. 1 in Frankfort. The Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts will sponsor the comprehensive workshop titled Forensic Science in the Courtroom, Advanced Criminal Forensics for Spanish Interpreters. Letcher County Drug Court participants help provide Christmas gifts for children

As part of the Letcher County Drug Court annual Christmas program, Drug Court participants recently presented 100 gifts and Christmas stockings to 11 area children and two food baskets to local families. The participants raised the money to purchase the gifts and food baskets. The children and families received their gifts and food baskets at a Christmas dinner held Dec. 11 at the Letcher County Courthouse, where Chief Circuit Judge Samuel T. Wright III conducts Drug Court proceedings. Judge Wright began the Drug Court Christmas program last year.
