Venters appointed to fill vacant 3rd District Supreme Court seat

Gov. Steve Beshear announced Aug. 8 his appointment of Daniel J. Venters of Somerset to fill the vacant Supreme Court seat for the 3rd District, which is comprised of 27 counties in southcentral Kentucky. The seat was left vacant by former Chief Justice Joseph E. Lambert, who retired June 27. The 3rd Supreme Court District seat is up for election in November. The elected justice will serve out the remainder of the term for the seat, which ends in 2010.

Judge George appointed chief regional circuit judge for Cumberland Region

Judge Doughlas GeorgeChief Justice of Kentucky John D. Minton Jr. has appointed Circuit Court Judge Doughlas M. George of Springfield to the post of chief regional circuit judge for the Cumberland Region, which is comprised of 23 counties in southeastern Kentucky. As chief regional circuit judge, Judge George serves in an administrative capacity. His responsibilities include assigning special judges to serve in cases when presiding judges certify that a special judge is needed. Full news release.

Governor appoints Maze to fill vacant circuit judgeship in Jefferson

Judge Irv MazeGov. Steve Beshear announced Aug. 14 his appointment of Irvine Maze as circuit judge for the 30th District, Division 10, which serves Jefferson County. Maze will fill the vacancy left by the death in April of Judge Kathleen Voor Montano. Maze has served as Jefferson County attorney for the past 10 years. The circuit judge seat is on the November ballot, but Maze is unopposed. His term expires in 2014.

Governor appoints Goodman to fill vacant district judgeship in Fayette

Gov. Steve Beshear announced Aug. 12 his appointment of Julie Muth Goodman as district judge for the 22nd Judicial District, Division 4, which serves Fayette County. She will replace Judge David F. Hayse, who is now a senior judge. Goodman has been an attorney for 28 years.

Scorsone appointed to fill vacant circuit judgeship in Fayette County

Judge Ernesto ScorsoneGov. Steve Beshear announced Aug. 7 his appointment of Ernesto Scorsone as circuit judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit, Division 7, which serves Fayette County. Scorsone, a Kentucky senator, has been an attorney for 32 years and has focused on criminal defense law for the past 12 years. He will replace Judge Sheila Isaac, who is now a senior judge. The Circuit Court seat is on the November ballot. The judge elected will serve out the remainder of the term for the circuit judgeship, which ends in 2014.
